LOWEST RANKING FOR WOODS AS A PRO GOLFER

Tiger Woods’ ranking is a bad sight at the moment.

The American golfer slipped to No. 674 in the world – his lowest ranking since he turned pro. It is also the lowest ranking for the champ since he was a 19-year old amateur making waves.

Woods departed the No. 1 spot early 2014 as he tied 25th at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. Not long thereafter he had his first back surgery and he has continually battled it at 41 years. The same back pain has ruled him out for the rest of the year. As he continually misses rounds, his rankings continue to plummet.

He now sits on the 674th spot in the world rankings – it showed how long his reign was but also reminds fans how things have gone sour. In 1994, he was outside the top 700 in the world but he witnessed a meteoric rise before 1998 where he was the top ranked.

He brought consistency to the game as remained there until his private affairs came crashing out. He dropped to the 23rd spot around 2011, went back up before a free fall that has continued since 2014.

With the latest surgery, some say this might be the end of his comeback. He would need a serious rehab to get back in shape. Even at that, with young and focused players littered around, it would be a miracle forthe man that inspired their generation to come back and defeat them. He might return to the PGA Tour next year but he would barely threaten his opponents.

It is unlikely that any golfer would dominate the sport again like the American did from 1997 when he hit the spotlight until 20008. He remains an enigma awaiting retirement.
